Abunze Coast
【 Goto | Saikai National Park 】
During the Onidake eruption, lava flowed into the sea and formed a complex coastline that is now covered in part by a subtropical forest. At the visitor’s center, guests can learn about the nature of the landscape, geology, animals, and plants of the Goto Islands. From the observatory stations you can see Mt. Onidake, the lava coast, and surrounding islands. When the temperature drops in winter, a kind of “floating island” mirage may be seen off the coast.
