Suwanoike Pond
【 Unzen | Unzen Amakusa National Park 】
Suwanoike Pond was built in the Edo era using fault topography and is the largest agricultural reservoir of the Shimabara Peninsula. Terraced fields surround the area and the volcano mountain ranges of Unzen reflect on the surface of the water. The Kyukamura Unzen nearby has consists of several hotels and camp grounds with camping equipment available for rent. There is also a visitor center with information on the history and nature of the area as well as an astronomical observatory.
