Mt. Taradake and Kinsenji
【 Isahaya、Omura | Taradake Prefectural Park 】
Taradake (height: 983m) is an old volcano connected to a 4km crater wall located on the border with Saga Prefecture. As erosion has progressed, valleys such as Todoroki Gorge have developed at the foot of the mountain. The whole mountain is covered with a temperate forest with many plants such as rhododendron and Japanese witch hazel. The Lycoris sanguine are beautiful in the summer. Kinsenji Temple was built in the early Heian period and prospered as Shingon Buddhist temple. The Kinsenji Temple hut near the top of the mountain is used as a waypoint for hikers year-round.
